Notes from Yoga class: "Root down, down so you can rise up", means we must ground into the Earth before we do anything else. Balance comes from aligning both sides of the body on the inside, with the strength of the core: abs, back, side and also trunk from which we can expand outwards. Then our spirit may become lighter and more expansive.
I also heard from a student at the Insight Meditation Center at Barre, MA that it's good to focus on the out-breath for restlessness and the in-breath for sadness.
So, Yoga Sanctuary's Ms. Page. As much fun as she is strengthening and instructive, her website can be found here:
Yoga Sanctuary
Quite an outstanding teacher. Ravi Singh of NYC, teaching us Kundalini in the 80's and 90's, was more mystically inclined(and hard, as he had us holding breath-of-fire poses for 2 minutes at a time) but they're in the same ballpark(they both have the great music). Ms. Page studied at Kripalu for a long time and made Yoga her life's work. She knows the most Anatomy of any Yoga teacher I've met.
Correction: Our Yoga teacher now is quite mystically inclined as well. While also rational. Root down. And she recommends Douglas Brooks's book, Poised for Grace as key for reading the Bhagavad-Gita.
